The Lurssen shipyard is a family business in the 4th generation. Since more than 125 years more than 3000 boats, ships and yachts have been built for lurssen yacht construction.
This experience in shipbuilding creates the basis for their success of today, which is reflected by its current positive order book. The shipyard is divided into three business fields. The first one is the building of naval vessels and special ships, like fast patrol boats, corvettes, support vessels, etc. The second area is the building of luxury super yachts starting from 40m to well over 150m, realizing nearly every design beyond any imagination. The third field is called Lurssen Logistic and concentrates on all logistical parts of the group, e.g. repair and maintenance, yacht management, spare part documentation, crew training centre and training simulators. Lurssen has earned its reputation world-wide for its high-class tailor-made super yachts.
The combination of constant innovation over the last 125 years, the high quality of the work, the dedicated work force, its discretion, and especially the close interaction with the client are highly valued by its customers yacht construction. To realize the special demands of their clients, the shipyard works together with cutting-edge designers from all over the world. They co-operate with Lurssen’s own staff of more than one hundred naval architects and engineers in order to seek creative options and design solutions with regard to the highest quality and highest technical standards.
Lurssen The Art of Yacht Building
In 2012, two of the world's top designers get involved in the construction of the 147.25 meter yacht Topaz: Tim Heywood gave Topaz a very elegant appearance despite her sheer size, and Terence Disdale was responsible for her very exclusive interior.
In 2013 Lürssen delivers Azzam, the longest yacht in the world. She not only sets a record with regards to her length of 180 meters and speed of more than 30 knots but also her building time of less than three years is record-breaking. In 2016 Lürssen launched the 156 meter long yacht Dilbar. The yacht, with a width of more than 23 meters is the biggest yacht in the world in terms of gross tonnage.
Lürssen acquired shipbuilding company Blohm + Voss in a long-term partnership.
On 1 March 2018, a German consortium consisting of Thyssen Krupp and Luerssen is excluded by the German Government from the tender for the construction of the multi-purpose warship MKS 180 for the benefit of GNY (German Naval Yards), belonging to the Prinvinvest group, and the Dutch shipbuilder Damen.

Build & Design
The creation of your yacht always starts off with a concept phase. Together with our designers and engineers, we will test how our preliminary ideas can brought to life. This is where we’ll make the first rough sketches of your soon to be built superyacht with MLKYACHTS. , designer and naval architect together. Thanks to an immense amount of knowledge, experience and working relationships with various yards, designers and naval architects, your MLKYACHTS will be able to identify the most suitable solution with total impartiality. Sometimes the designer will be commissioned first so that several shipyards can be approached.
We will begin to pull together for your yacht construction a team of legal advisors, surveyors, captains and yacht managers for you to meet. Once you have chosen the most suitable build for you, your broker and legal counsel will facilitate negotiations with the selected yard to assure you receive the best value as well as a timely build schedule. Everything from specifications, regulations.Only when the client, the designers and technical team are completely satisfied about the plan, a final agreement is signed. Once the client puts down his signature, we are ready to start building with an MLKYACHTS broker.
Once the contracts have been signed, the build process will begin. MLKYACHTS broker will play an integral role during the build to mediate between various parties involved. Your build broker will appoint a yacht manager after exchange on your behalf who will serve as an invaluable liaison between the broker, client and shipyard.In order to start with the physical build, a detailed construction plan is written. Here, the specific amount of building materials is determined, like the metals that are used for making the hull and the superstructure for your yacht construction.
