Yacht Charter FAQs

Chartering a large yacht can be a a very difficult process. Start with this website. It is a general introduction to just some of the many fine yachts available for charter. More detailed information and individual colour brochures on these and other superb yachts in our charter portfolio are available on request. If you are uncertain about your charter requirements, our brokers will be delighted to advise you. Similarly, if you wish to check the availability of any given vessel, please contact Mlkyachts. Our dedicated team is available to give the best guidance and advice.

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 25 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be 30 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. He will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

Crew gratuities are discretionary, although it is customary for a charterer who has enjoyed the kind and attentive service of an obliging crew to extend a gratuity. Crew gratuities are normally approximately 10 per cent of the charter fee, but can be adjusted up or down according to your level of satisfaction.

The best way to ensure that all crew members receive equal recognition is to entrust the distribution of gratuities to the captain.

Mlkyachts strongly recommends charterers take out Cancellation and Curtailment Insurance to protect their investment if unforeseen circumstances prevent or curtail their charter. Additionally, all members of the charter party should be covered by Personal Accident and Medical Insurance, and their personal effects should be insured against theft, loss or damage.

In 1970 some prestigious yachting brands appointed the company to distribute their boats in Italy and build a yacht.
Azimut quickly expanded its operations: Apart from distribution, it began to design new yachts. In a joint venture with Amerglass, it designed the AZ 43’ Bali, a mass-produced fibreglass boat, which was an immediate success for yacht construction.
The company gradually expanded its range, focussing on the lower end of the market – with the launch of the AZ 32’ Targa in 1977, the “Ford T” of the boat world – and upper end too – (with the memorable début of the Azimut 105’ Failaka in 1982, the biggest mass-produced yacht in fibreglass at the time).

This historical brand, based in Viareggio, had been building boats since 1873, and designed the concept of the megayacht.
Azimut was now able construct its own yachts, defining new style and industry standards that would go on to revolutionise the boat building industry, such as: large frameless windows, electric seats, and walnut interiors see more about Azimut.

From the late nineties onwards, with the acquisition of new boatyards at Fano, the restructuring of the Benetti boatyards at Viareggio and the construction of a new site at Avigliana, in the province of Turin, Azimut went on to become the foremost builder of yachts and megayachts.
This leadership position was confirmed in subsequent seasons, thanks to numerous business successes and an investment policy which has consolidated Azimut’s technological and production capacities over the years, with sites now established in Brazil.

Build & Design

The creation of your yacht always starts off with a concept phase. Together with our designers and engineers, we will test how our preliminary ideas can brought to life. This is where we’ll make the first rough sketches of your soon to be built superyacht with MLKYACHTS. , designer and naval architect together. Thanks to an immense amount of knowledge, experience and working relationships with various yards, designers and naval architects, your MLKYACHTS will be able to identify the most suitable solution with total impartiality. Sometimes the designer will be commissioned first so that several shipyards can be approached.

Contract Negociation

We will begin to pull together for your yacht construction a team of legal advisors, surveyors, captains and yacht managers for you to meet. Once you have chosen the most suitable build for you, your broker and legal counsel will facilitate negotiations with the selected yard to assure you receive the best value as well as a timely build schedule. Everything from specifications, regulations.Only when the client, the designers and technical team are completely satisfied about the plan, a final agreement is signed. Once the client puts down his signature, we are ready to start building with an MLKYACHTS broker.

Yacht Construction

Once the contracts have been signed, the build process will begin. MLKYACHTS broker will play an integral role during the build to mediate between various parties involved. Your build broker will appoint a yacht manager after exchange on your behalf who will serve as an invaluable liaison between the broker, client and shipyard.In order to start with the physical build, a detailed construction plan is written. Here, the specific amount of building materials is determined, like the metals that are used for making the hull and the superstructure for your yacht construction.
